Payroll Manager

This position is hybrid (2 days remote and 3 days in the office)

Position Summary

The Payroll Manager will lead a team of payroll professionals, overseeing the day-to-day operations, including accurate calculation of wages, company deductions, payroll tax and account reconciliations, year-end reporting, supporting internal and external audits, and participating in different projects. They are also responsible for reviewing, implementing, and maintaining payroll systems and procedures that support best practices and operational excellence and ensure proper governmental reporting and compliance. 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ongoing review of all CDN and US Payroll processes, including payroll controls and compliance
  • Partner with various departments within Convoy to provide direction on business needs and issues related to payroll, ensuring the company follows federal, provincial/state legislation concerning payroll
  • Own the day-to-day payroll operations; coordinate with vendors and the internal team to deliver pay to employees accurately, promptly, and effectively within all regulatory, labour, and tax guidelines
  • Establish strong relationships by delivering quality and timely service, identifying design and process inefficiencies with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and correct processing of payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, taxes, and other deductions
  • Manage the external payroll and benefits vendor contracts and renewal in Canada and the United States, including the ongoing management of service delivery and ensuring compliance to all reporting requirements
  • Develop ad hoc financial and operating reporting as needed

 

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in payroll, managing Canadian and US payroll processing and benefits administration
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in accounting, business, or related field
  • Experience with a variety of technologies including Dayforce HRIS platform, SharePoint, and extensive experience with Microsoft Office
  • Effective leadership, management, and coaching skills
  • Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and able to work tight deadlines with a high degree of accuracy
  • Able to interact with employees of all levels of experience and seniority across Convoy Supply
  • Confidential and discreet when dealing with sensitive employee payroll and benefit matters
  • Organized and efficient, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong partnerships
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Bilingual in French an asset
