Summary:

Our company is looking for a experienced Metal Fabricators to join our team full time in our Prince George fabrication shop. The ideal candidate will be a certified Journeyperson Fitter with at least 5 years of progressive experience in their trade. Experienced fourth year apprentices and Sheet Metal Workers will be considered, and are encouraged to apply.

 

Description:

A regular day in the life of a Fitter includes working independently and as part of a team to layout, fit, and assemble mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum into metal structures, industrial equipment, and custom parts. Our Fitters have the opportunity to work on a large variety of projects for customers working in the natural resources industries.

The successful candidates would benefit from a solid understanding of advanced measuring techniques, and will need to be able to read and interpret "napkin drawings", blueprints, and engineered drawings. They will have proven experience operating equipment such as welders, grinders, cutting torches, brake presses, metal shears, and overhead cranes. Candidates will also be well served by a background in design work or detailing which will enable them to review and assess technical drawings with a critical eye to reduce errors prior to fabrication. 

A strong attention to detail, a commitment to safe work practices, and a drive to produce top quality work are critical for this position.

 

Duties:

  • Read and interpret blueprints to plan, layout, fit, assemble, and weld stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum
  • Interpret weld symbols, machine allowances, and drawing notes to ensure pieces are assembled correctly and to close tolerances
  • Set up and operate welding equipment to weld, repair, join, and /or fabricate metal structures and industrial equipment
  • Visibly inspect completed work to ensure quality and tolerances conform to specifications
  • Problem solve and repair fabrication issues to ensure finished product meets or exceeds quality standards
  • Perform safe rigging and slinging to hoist, roll, and move large and heavy loads
  • Operate mobile equipment such as forklift, telescopic handler, and aerial work platforms
  • Perform preventative maintain on tools and equipment
  • Ensure work area is maintained in a clean and tidy state to reduce hazards and improve efficiency
  • Participate fully in the health and safety program through daily tool box talks, JOHS meetings, monthly safety meetings, and hazard mitigation
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Red Seal certificate in Metal Fabrication preferred
  • 5 + years of progressive experience in structural fabrication
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision
  • Personal tooling
  • Knowledge of CAD and/or SolidWorks an asset
  • Forklift ticket, over head crane ticket, first aid ticket an asset
  • Physical fitness to stand, squat, climb, bend, and pull for long periods of time
  • Strong time management skills

 

Schedule:

  • Four 10 hour days per week
