Description
As a member of the care giving team on the Patient Care units, assists the Nursing staff with the provision of patient care. Performs duties related to patient care under the direction of regulated Health Care Professionals and/or Physicians in accordance with hospital standards, policies and procedures. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, patients and families.

Qualifications
Education:
- Diploma or Certificate in Personal Support Worker (PSW) from a recognized PSW Program
- Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent related skills & experience
Experience:
- Previous experience working in hospital and or other healthcare facilities preferred
- Skilled in point of care (POC) preferred
Knowledge and Skills:
- Current BLS & CPR Certificates required
- Previous Hospital/Health Care experience strongly preferred
- Current basic computer skills
- Effective written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Must have the knowledge, skill, judgment and ability to work with patients in an understanding, sensitive and compassionate manner
- Must be a self-directed individual with well-developed organizational skills
- Possess the ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
- Proven initiative, judgment, decision-making and problem-solving capabilities
- Have an interest in, and the ability to work with the elderly patients
- Demonstrated ability to comply with patient safety initiatives, e.g. hand hygiene protocols
- Demonstrated ability to respect the patient’s rights to safety, dignity, respect, privacy and confidentiality
- Proven ability to develop and maintain rapport with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
- Reliable attendance record
