Description

If you do not meet the education qualification of the technician position, LWDH will consider candidates on an underfill basis at the Hospital’s discretion.

Pharmacy technicians have an incredibly varied set of responsibilities and duties.  They are accountable and responsible for the technical aspects of both new and refill prescriptions, (i.e. the correct patient, drug dosage form/route, dose, doctor), and have the authority to sign for the technical check of prescriptions.  While both retail and hospital pharmacy technician employment positions are exciting, fast paced and dynamic, hospital pharmacy employment varies significantly from retail pharmacy employment.

The pharmacy technician duties in hospital practice can be broadly divided into four areas: unit-dose and non-unit dose drug distribution, IV admixture and chemotherapy compounding, medication reconciliation for patients admitted to hospital, and clerical duties such as inventory management.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • medication order pick-up/delivery of medications, dispensing medication orders, entering medication orders into the pharmacy system, filling and delivery of medication carts, and performing the necessary functions on computers while meeting pharmacy standards for accuracy and speed
  • being able to complete sterile product preparation for IV admixture and chemotherapy/hazardous drugs, utilizing aseptic technique; and being able to complete the necessary mathematical calculations and translating these calculations to the proper equipment to ensure accurate measurement in the preparation of products
  • completing best possible medication histories and interviewing patients, and acting as an integral part of the interdisciplinary health care team.
  • inventory management, and ordering and receiving of drugs and supplies.

If this opportunity sounds like a great fit for you and you meet most of the essential qualifications we are looking for, we encourage you to apply and provide us more details about why you think you would be a great fit. We cannot make any promises, but we will consider your qualifications and the potential you bring. LWDH is dedicated to ongoing professional development and continuing education opportunities to enhance skillsets and working experience.
