THE OPPORTUNITY
In support of the efficient operation of the Acute Inpatient Units, the Ward Clerk facilitates the flow of patient care efficiently and safely through accurate and timely completion of assigned duties. The successful candidate will primarily work with the 2N team. Patient care is provided with an interdisciplinary focus. The Ward Clerk is required to work with all members of the Health Care Team in a Collaborative fashion. The primary purpose of this position is to provide clerical support, perform reception responsibilities including interacting with the public to answer questions to provide excellent patient experience, organizing and maintaining patient charts, electronic and paper information filing systems; performing patient administration functions including scheduling and coordinating appointments, and performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:
- Grade 12 education or equivalent required
- Completion of medical terminology course
- Ward Clerk Certificate or Nursing Unit Clerk Certificate an asset
- Previous experience in a health-related setting
- Experience transcribing physicians’ orders an asset
- Excellent computer skills in MS Office word processing and spreadsheet programs
- Ability to utilize Meditech computer and systems
- Demonstrated appreciation and respect for protocol, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize the workload and multi-task
- Ability to work efficiently independently and in a teamwork environment
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
- Ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced working environment
- Commitment to GBGH Values and Purpose Statement
- As a partially designated French speaking organization, French verbal and written communication skills are considered an asset in this position

COMPENSATION

- Hourly rate of pay $28.79 - $29.56, plus additional 14% in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation to start

Permanent Part Time. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the SEIU collective agreement.
