Our company is a small, rural hospital located in Almonte, Ontario, 40 kilometers west of downtown Ottawa. The Hospital offers a wide range of acute care, level-one obstetrics, surgical services and continuing care services including a 24/7 Emergency Department.  In addition, the Hospital operates a 112 bed Long Term Care Home located on the Hospital campus, as well as the Lanark County Paramedic Service.  The Hospital campus also includes the Ottawa Valley Family Health Team; the Leeds, Grenville & District Health Unit and Lanark County Mental Health.  Together, these facilities provide our patients and residents with integrated, coordinated healthcare to support their seamless movement from one care setting to another. Reporting to the Director of Care, the Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) is responsible for front line nursing leadership and management as well as clinical content expertise in the delivery of optimal care and service, based on legislative requirements. This includes effective planning, directing, and coordination of all activities necessary to support the care of residents receiving long term care and patients receiving complex continuing care; the management of the Life Enrichment Program; the coordination of the RAI-MDS program - including staff education and support; and the development and implementation of quality, risk management, and resource (human and financial) management plans. Including but not limiting to planning, organizing and managing the schedule and performance of staff in accordance with and ensuring compliance with applicable policies, collective agreement provisions, standards and legislation.

The Individual and Qualifications:

Education

  • Must hold a BScN degree
  • Canadian Nurses’ Association (CNA) Gerontology Certification preferred
  • Current licensure with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education
  • Masters in Nursing or a health related field (preferred)

Experience

  • At least three (3) years front line nursing experience in the area of long term care
  • At least 3 years of experience working as registered nurse in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting
  • RAI-MDS experience
  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively with or leading a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing change
  • Demonstrated understanding of current and emerging best practices health care and experience promoting compliance with professional and ethical practices, quality and risk management standards, accreditation requirements and applicable legislation including MOHLTC program standards
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Long Term Care Act
  • Demonstrated skills including; change management, project management, communications, human resources, performance management and evaluation
  • Experience monitoring and evaluating staffing patterns and work schedules and assignments that maximize human resources and continuity of care
  • Replaces the DOC when required
