POSITION: HVAC MECHANIC

UNIT: BUILDING SERVICES

SALARY: $30.24- $30.76

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Building Services Manager, the HVAC Mechanic is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, troubleshooting, installation, maintenance and repair of all Hospital refrigeration, air conditioning, and HVAC equipment and specialty gas equipment, pumps and air compressors. In addition, this position is required to perform general maintenance duties as assigned throughout the Hospital in accordance with policies, procedures, legislated codes and regulations.

HOURS:

This position must be available to work days, afternoons, weekends, nights (when required) as well as all shifts on weekends and/or statutory holidays. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours when required as well as participate in the departmental on-call rotation.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must possess a trade certificate in either/or HVAC, Industrial or Residential Refrigeration, or Air Conditioning from the Ontario College of Trades and be a current member in good standing.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in HVAC with preference being given to those with previous hospital and/or healthcare experience.
  • G1 gas license would be a definite asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of steam boilers, controls, chiller operation and basic mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems and equipment, with the ability to make mathematical calculations and follow complex verbal and written instructions.
  • Experience working with hand tools, power tools, reading and interpreting drawings.
  • Computer skills to include the regular use of Outlook, Work Requisition Software, Building Automation Software, Risk Monitor Pro, Internet/Intranet navigation, as well as utilizing an iPad.
  • Team and customer focused with the ability to communicate respectfully in a pleasant, flexible and professional manner with all patients, families, staff and volunteers.
