We are a fully-integrated supplier of manufacturing and engineering services providing modular assemblies and complex stampings for body-in-white, drive-train, interior and seating applications for the automotive industry. We are looking for a Toolroom Supervisor for the Afternoon Shift (2:00pm - 10:00pm) to join our team at our Brampton, ON facility.

Position Overview:

Direct and perform with toolmakers in making or improving different types of tools to enable the production processes within a manufacturing facility to be as efficient as possible. This may include jigs, fixtures, clamps or molds to obtain a more robust consistently produced part that meets the specification of the customer.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice toolroom vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
  • Identify business improvement opportunities within the organization.
  • Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on Toolroom activities.
  • Provide specialist technical advice and support on all aspects of Tool design, manufacturing and estimating.
  • Support production and engineering with tooling/technical problems.
  • Supervise the running and plan activities of the toolroom facilities and toolmakers, ensuring the toolroom is a safe environment in line with health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Provide quotations for new tooling, modifications and repairs.
  • Supervise, coach and develop a high performing toolroom team that meets agreed objectives and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements.
  • Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualize product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
  • Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly method and sequence of operations.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining.
  • Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts, and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Lift machined parts and position and secure parts on surface plate or work table.
  • Smooth flat and contoured surfaces and power grinders, and fit and assemble parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
  • Heat treat tools or parts.
  • Examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommend design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
  • Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draw or sketch design of product.
  • Comply with requirements as outlined in the company handbook and the OHSA.
  • Practice good housekeeping.
  • Other duties that may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the assigned tool makers. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include but not limited to; training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Competencies

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the practices, ideas and concepts associates within the field or work by applying these appropriately depending on the assignment or issue.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the company policies and procedures and manage staff in line with these.

Education and/or Experience

  • Three years or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Ontario Tool & Die Maker certification.
