The purpose of this role is to provide leadership by example and playing a hands-on role in the Sanitation Department. The Supervisor will be responsible for managing the day-to-day execution of the sanitation team, including part-timers, full-timers, temporary associates and 1 lead hand. Communicating with the Crew Leads and team members regarding the tasks to be executed. Daily monitoring to ensure compliance with quality, health and safety standards.

 

Primary responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:

  • Supervise and assign daily tasks to crew in accordance with training and staffing levels
  • Perform random inspections during sanitation time to ensure proper and detailed cleaning
  • Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly sanitation records
  • Perform GMP and Internal Inspections of the facility to communicate results and follow-up completion of corrective actions
  • Oversee the development and execution of the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) through the scheduling of labour to clean and sanitize equipment, surfaces and plant environment to accomplish sanitation practices according to Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP’s)
  • Measure and analyze sanitation performance metrics and participate in weekly meetings (as required) to review the findings and assign investigation and corrective action responsibilities to drive continuous improvement
  • Promote the company’s health and safety program, maintain a safe working environment and ensure continued compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and JHSC recommendations 
  • Train & Coach the sanitation team to ensure clear communication and understanding of the job requirements
  • Effectively provide feedback to employees regarding positive work performance and opportunities for improvement
  • Establish a strong culture of Food Safety with all team members and ensure all are educated on compliance, legal requirements and food safety standards, policies and protocols 
  • Complete and Maintain appropriate documentation to identify all tasks completed or required future actions
  • Establish Strategic planning to improve efficiency, overall job flow, and sanitation effectiveness
  • Coordinate with QA and production departments to ensure best cleaning/sanitizing practices are being implemented on a daily basis
  • Participate in capital project planning, new equipment installations and new product lines by providing sanitation recommendations and expertise 
  • Manage and ensure cleaning programs are effectively processed within the cleaning time frame

 

Job Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of Supervisory experience in the sanitation department in a food manufacturing setting (even better if it is Bakery environment!)
  • Solid knowledge of HACCP/FSMA, Food industry GMP’s, BRC standards, WHMIS, first aid, Food safety, Basic food microbiology, lock out and tag out and OHSA
  • Able to work in cold, hot, humid or wet manufacturing environment conditions
  • Strong attention to detail and are able to meet cleanliness standards set by the company
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, be self-reliant, and be energized by opportunities to learn and grow, and be a steward of your own career
  • Be able to lead, coach and mentor a team of 20-25 team members including temporary associates and permanent employees
  • Mindset of continuous improvement and passionate about sanitation and understands its importance to the safety and quality of manufactured food products
  • Proficient in computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook), previous experience with EAM, SAP and Kronos an asset
  • Be flexible to work different schedules including Friday night shifts
