General Labourer/Operator/Vehicle Mechanic

The Township of Guelph/Eramosa is located at the south end of Wellington County, surrounding the City of Guelph and is a vibrant rural and small urban municipality.

The Public Works department is seeking applications for an experienced and mechanically inclined individual to perform a variety of duties associated with roads, equipment, and vehicle maintenance.

Reporting to the Public Works Foreman, the primary duties of this dual position include:

• Responsible for operating and maintaining various equipment, driving single and tandem axel vehicles
• Provide trouble shooting, repair and maintenance expertise to the Public Works Roads Division
• Maintain the good order of the Township’s fleet of vehicles, light and heavy equipment, snowplows, and hand tools
• Perform a variety of construction, snow/ice removal, maintenance and repair services to public roads and property

The successful candidate will have:

• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
• 310T Truck and Coach Licence required
• A valid Ontario Driver’s Licence, Class “D” with a “Z” endorsement and a Ministry of Transportation abstract in good standing
• Minimum five (5) years of experience or equivalent as a mechanic working with light vehicles, heavy trucks, equipment, and hand tools
• Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in roads maintenance
• Previous snowplow experience is preferred
• Possess a comprehensive working knowledge of the repair, maintenance, and operation of a variety of light and heavy trucks, equipment, and hand tools
• Basic knowledge of computers
• Good communication skills and the ability to deal with the public in a tactful manner
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment
• Capability to perform tasks in varying environmental conditions
• First Aid and CPR training would be considered an asset
• Working knowledge of all Occupational Health and Safety, and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System regulations

The salary range for this position is $27.08 – $35.65 per hour
