CLINICAL EXTERN - OT & PT


The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance is currently accepting applications for the Clinical Extern - Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy positions. This externship is an exciting employment opportunity for students currently studying Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy. Clinical Externs will be working in the capacity as an unregulated health care provider (UCP). Successful candidates will gain valuable experience and build connections with a team of passionate Inter-professional care providers in the Rehabilitation Services setting. Clinical Externs may be considered for employment opportunities upon graduation and licensure.


POSITION TITLE: Clinical Extern - OT or PT


SITE: Alliance Wide


STATUS: Temporary Part-time


SHIFTS: 8-hour shifts - Availability: Required for Days, Weekends, and Statutory Holidays


REPORTS TO: Manager, Therapies and Professional Practice


DATE REQUIRED: As soon as possible


SALARY: $20.60 per hour

This position has the opportunity to be partially funded through BioTalent's Student Work Placement Program. The successful applicant must be willing to participate in the application process to this program.


VACATION:
- Successful candidates will have the option to request for unpaid time off up to two weeks during the temporary part-time term

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Physiotherapy students in any year of study of a training program accredited by Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada (PEAC)
- Occupational therapy students in any year of study in a training program accredited by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT)

DUTIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
- Practices using their acquired knowledge, skills and judgment needed to perform all actions/duties
- Follows organizational policies and professional standards
- Supports patients and therapies staff as required
- Observing assessments patient care duties, assisting when appropriate as determined by OT or PT
- Performing duties with patients as assigned by OT/PT e.g.; assisting with mobility/transfers, pushing chair behind, gathering materials etc.
- Practicing documentation in test
- Requests assistance with assigned duties whenever necessary
- Contributes to the daily restocking of supplies and products
- Assists OT/PT staff in assessments and interpretation
- Assists with comfort measures and patient safety by ensuring the environment is clean and tidy and free of hazards
- Engages in additional skills as approved
- Wears appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
- Contributes to and supports positive team functioning

- Demonstrated knowledge of infection prevention and control practices
- Developing clinical skills and competencies
- Advancing interpersonal and communication skills
- Progressing problem-solving, decision-making, critical thinking, organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work as an effective member of an inter-professional team
- Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality
