Second Cook: Job Brief

The second cook position at Sunwapta works the night line. Reporting to and working with the Sous Chef they prepare and plate most of the evening dishes. This is a busy position and a step up from regular line cooking. There are many different cooking techniques to master. Ideally after a season in this position you are ready to pursue a first cook position in charge of a night line.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • Lots of prep, we do approx. 100 covers a night
  • You need to establish a good rapport with the Sous Chef who is your main work mate
  • Helping the dishwasher wrap things up at the end of the evening
  • You are responsible if the Sous Chef is not in the kitchen
  • Plating in a fast and efficient manner 
  • Making the Sous Chef look good 

 

Qualifications and Skills

 

  • This position requires two years as a line cook
  • You will be busy all shift so you need a calm temperament
  • Fast and efficient you like to get the job done
  • To be successful you need to be interested in learning more about high quality restaurant food and service
